ANNE O’BRIEN

Anne O’Brien was born in Inchicore in 1956 - part of a family that had football hardwired into their DNA.

Being among the first Irish women to play international football got Anne noticed and secured her a move to France where she would become the first Irish woman to play professionally.

She would go on to win six Scudetti with four different clubs in Italy and play with some of the best players in the women’s game.

Her legacy as one of Ireland’s most successful footballers and a trailblazer for the women’s game is more than secure.

This film is part of the Sport It Right project which operates across Austria, Ireland, Italy and Slovenia with the aim of highlighting and addressing discrimination in sport and focuses on telling the stories of courageous sportspeople who have faced discrimination in sport.
